Drug violence has been raging in Mexico for years now, with murders and shootouts occurring on a daily basis. But what happens when the gunfire -- which has claimed nearly 30,000 lives thus far -- breaks out near a school packed with little children?

That's just what happened last week in Monterrey, in Northern Mexico. According to a report in the New York Daily News, gunmen pulled up to a taxi stand and opened fire, killing five people.

But inside a nearby school, a teacher jumped into action, telling the kindergarten kids to get down on the floor. According to a report in the Daily Mail, a student can be heard on video from inside the classroom asking what is going on. The teacher answered, "No, nothing is going on." After a burst of machine gun fire, she again said, "No, nothing is happening."

In an effort to keep the kids calm, she asked the kids if they want to sing a song. They all cheer "yes," and then she started singing a song from "Barney."
