Life Lesson: Don't Trust Michael Vick

| by Off The Record

Michael Vick is a swell guy. He has learned his lesson from killing all of those dogs, flipping off fans and getting caught with water bottles that have compartments for marijuana in them. As such, it’d be a good idea to have him host a party at a nightclub, right?

Well, as 23-year old Darnell Aponte has learned, maybe that’s not such a hot idea. It seems that Vick was hired (and paid half upfront) to show up at a Hallandale Beach, FL nightclub at 1 AM on May 29th, but he never made it.

I don’t know what to do,” Aponte said. “This was my first full-blown event.”

So Lesson #1: Don’t rely on Mike Vick for anything.

Aponte was paying Vick $10,000 for his time, but he also laid out another $10,000 for flyers and advertisements.

“For me to lose $20,000 hurts,” Aponte said. “This is like near catastrophic.”

Fred Grant, Vick’s booking agent in Atlanta, said that Vick’s flight was canceled due to extreme weather.

“We did everything we could to get him there,” Grant said. “We’re not trying to be shady or stiff anybody.”

They aren’t trying to stiff anyone, but if it happens, hey, what can we do?

When the clock struck 1 AM and Vick wasn’t there, Aponte called him.

“He wasn’t apologetic at all,” Aponte said. “He had a really poor attitude: ‘I missed my flight, what the heck do you want me to do about it?’”

Yet, when the South Florida Sun-Sentinel checked the records of US Airways, it shows that his flight was delayed, not canceled. If he had taken the flight he was supposed to, he would have been about 26 minutes late.

“The flight was not canceled,” Aponte said, probably realizing at that moment that maybe this wasn’t such a hot idea and that maybe he should finish getting his degree. “He breached the contract.”

The good news is that people who wanted to protest Vick being at the party actually did show up. So they had that going for them. As far as OTR is concerned, it’s not a party until protesters show up.

Here is our favorite part: Other celebs that were invited were 50 Cent, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Allen Iverson. None of them showed up. Really? You had a party and expected Vick and Iverson to actually show up? Seriously? Are you stupid?
