Vernal Equinox 2011 – Time to Welcome the Spring!

| by

March 20th marks 2011’s Vernal Equinox… the official start of Spring. The winter is officially coming to an end — celebrations are in order. The equinox is held by some cultures to be one of the most spiritually transformative days of the year and has long been celebrated as a time of rebirth and renewal in cultures across the globe.

The coming equinox has got me thinking about ways that I practice transformation and celebrate the feeling of rebirth and renewal in my own life. How do I celebrate? Well, for me it’s pretty simple. No fancy parties or elaborate decorations; no songs, dance, or festive outfits — just me, my body, my breath, and my mat.

Yoga. Yup – that’s how I get down.

Over the past couple of years, Yoga has transformed from a way for me to de-stress after work into a full blown obsession and it’s totally transformed my life. How do I celebrate? Yoga. How do I stay healthy? Yoga. How do I grieve? Yoga. How do I get through issues and problems that I am having? Yoga. How to I stay sane in New York City? Yup – yoga.

So how am I going to celebrate the coming Equinox? How am I going to practice welcoming Spring back into my life? You guessed it — Yoga.

Oh yeah — It’s going to be a great spring… I can tell already.
