MMA: UFC 123 Bonuses and Financial Results

| by

In a return that was over 14 years in the making, the UFC’s return to the Detroit area was a financial success.  UFC 123 which took place at the Palace at Auburn Hills, a Detroit suburb, drew 16,404 MMA fans for a live gate of 2.1 million dollars.  These figures were announced at the post-fight press conference by UFC president Dana White.  The last time the UFC had held an event in the Moto City was UFC 9 back in 1996.

The 2.1 million dollar gate is a commendable feat as Detroit, and to an extent most of Michigan, has bared the brunt of the economic recession taking place here in the United States.

UFC 123 Bonuses

BJ Penn pocketed a cool $80,000 for taking the ‘Knockout of the Night’ bonus for his demolition of Matt Hughes.

Likewise, Phil Davis added $80,000 to his bank account for ‘Submission of the Night’ with one of the sickest kimuras you will ever see that forced Tim Boetsch to tap.

Both George Sotiropoulos and Joe Lauzon collected $80,000 each for their spirited two round battle that earned ‘Night of the Night’ honors.  Sotiropoulos would force Lauzon to tap in the second round with a kimura.
