President Obama may not be withdrawing troops as quickly as some activists would like, but he certainly appears to be following through on his promise to end major combat operation in Iraq. In a joint announcement today by U.S. and Iraqi officials, it was declared that 12,000 troops would be leaving Iraq by the end of September.
"The reduction is possible due to the increased level of security and
stability that Iraq has achieved over the last 12 months," said the U.S. military in a prepared statement.
