Typing Versus FC

| by Val

In writing the Matt Hobson piece the intention was to celebrate a success. I offer the fact that Facilitated Communication (FC) has not been proven with regard to peer review. It is quite offensive to some professionals who feel that FC is falsely liberating (a lie). It is felt that the facilitators are the only ones providing input, without any from the child. This is an important thing to point out due to my written statement in the previous piece, that FC worked for the Hobsons. What worked was an initial interest in faciliated communication that in turn resulted in Matt's ability to type his thoughts independently. This has not been the result for many though, who unfortunately remain isolated, without a form of communication.
