Toyota to blame, not Congress

Interesting timing for your piece about how US owns parts of GM & Chrysler. And, granted this is all fact, let's also keep in mind that Toyota put themselves in this mess. Akio Toyoda took full responsibility for the failures in safety and manufacturing flaws:

"My name is on every car," Akio Toyoda said to the congressional panel. "You have my personal commitment that Toyota will work vigorously and unceasingly to restore the trust of our customers."

"We pursued growth over the speed at which we were able to develop our people and our organization, and we should sincerely be mindful of that," he said. "I regret that this has resulted in the safety issues described in the recalls we face today, and I am deeply sorry for any accidents that Toyota drivers have experienced."

That doesn't sound like the US Government had to aide in the 10% drop in January sales of Toyota. Sure sounds to me like Toyota did just fine without any intermediary.
