Singer Gavin DeGraw Attacked in New York City, Hospitalized

| by Michael Allen

Pop singer Gavin DeGraw says he was brutally beaten after leaving an East Village restaurant early Monday and then hit by a cab several blocks later.

The 34-year-old singer, who had been out drinking with friends, said he was accosted by a group of men on First Ave. at about 4 a.m. The singer then stumbled his way up to Third Ave. and E. 19th St., where he was hit by a cab at about 4:30 a.m. He was not seriously injured in the accident.

DeGraw, who appeared to be intoxicated, was taken by ambulance to Bellevue Hospital, sources said. He was in stable condition Monday night. He suffered a broken nose and other lacerations to his face.

DeGraw, who lives in New York City, is scheduled to perform Tuesday night in Saratoga Springs, New York with Maroon 5 and Train. "They don't know yet if he will be okay to make the show tomorrow," a source adds.

Sources said the singer reported the incident only after cops were called to the hospital. Police are investigating the alleged beatdown. No arrests had been made as of Monday night.

DeGrew is well-known for his songs "Chariot", "Follow Through", "I Don't Want to Be" and "In Love with a Girl."
