Bud Light Slogan Accused Of Promoting Rape

| by Michael Allen

Bud Light recently added a tag line to its beer advertising that offended several people on social media.

The slogan stated, “The perfect beer for removing ‘no’ from your vocabulary for the night."

Because the product is beer, the "removing 'no'" part was taken by some as an endorsement of rape, noted the Consumerist.

An image of the beer bottle's tag line was posted on Reddit and Twitter on Monday, and today Bud Light issued an apology to Buzzfeed:

The Bud Light Up for Whatever campaign, now in its second year, has inspired millions of consumers to engage with our brand in a positive and light-hearted way. In this spirit, we created more than 140 different scroll messages intended to encourage spontaneous fun. It’s clear that this message missed the mark, and we regret it. We would never condone disrespectful or irresponsible behavior.

In response to the statement, wrote, "Apologizing for promoting rape culture doesn't mean much without an action plan for preventing future missteps."

However, Bud Light never mentioned or apologized for "promoting rape culture."
