Authorities say a Harvey, La., man found dead in his bed Sunday morning was killed by an accidental shotgun blast from a neighboring apartment, not a self-inflicted wound as originally thought.

Rene O'Quin's fiancée found the 38-year-old in a pool of blood in his apartment on Sunday at about 10:22 a.m. Detectives first suspected his wound was self-inflicted, but then they noticed a bullet hole in the wall near the bed, Col. John Fortunato of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office said.

Investigators arrested neighbor Pierre Camese, 23, and charged him with negligent homicide, said Fortunato. They discovered Camese was involved in a domestic abuse incident with an unidentified woman over the weekend, and emergency officers had been called to the building.

When questioned, Camese told officers he took 12-guage shotgun to bed with him out of fear that the family of the woman with whom he had the dispute would come after him. He placed the borrowed firearm on his bed, pointed toward the wall, and claimed it accidentally went off when he pulled the bedcovers over himself.
