Video by Mark Berman
(February 09, 2010) in Politics

Former Colorado Congressman and presidential candidate Tom Tancredo delivered an inflammatory speech at the Tea Party Convention over the weekend. Besides saying those who don't have Judeo-Christian values should get out of America, he called for a literacy test for voters, questioned President Obama's patriotism, and said he was glad John McCain lost the presidential race:

Make her wear gloves so that she won't cheat. Or...maybe she could get a fifth grader to tutor her for the test.

      Huh?

I thought she could read. Oh great, now the whole crib notes thing makes no sense at all.

Besides, how could she fill out all those college applications if she couldn't read?

Tom Tancredo, the hypocritical, hateful, greedy, immoral person need to be very careful how he uses God in his rhetoric; God will not be mocked! He considers himself a Christian, yet he mocks God and everything God stands for. God is not a hatemonger, nor does he expect us to make judgement against others. He also had better be careful of who he calls to take a literacy test. From reading the various comments and the number of his supporters who could not construct a simple sentence with correct grammar and spelling, they may very well be the ones who fail the so called Jim Crow literacy test. Palin, Beck and others are the ones who are ruining this country. The idiots who can't conjugate a verb and uses a cheat sheet on their hand . Leaders that we can live without.

      Dead end?

Really? Citizens voicing their opinion is a dead end? If you get your way, we're past dead end, we're dead, as a free nation.

        You Missed the Point

You missed the point. Open your mind, and stop listening to these wack jobs . This is what is keeping out democracy from working like it should. This country has become so divided, because of the insane hateful talk, that it seems to have come to a dead end. I appreciate that people have free speech , but lets get real about the hateful, lying comments. GET IT>

I decide how open my mind is, no one else.

I can't stand Hannity, so I don't listen to him. Oreilly is boring, so I don't listen to him. Rush is on when I don't have access to a radio, so I don't listen to him. I don't follow Palin at all, nor Tancredo. My statement still stands.

It's not talk show hosts that cause these problems. They merely say outloud what others already think. Whether it's AirAmerica or Rush Limbaugh, free speech is free speech. Political correctness has gone a little, I mean alot, too far, and your view on shutting people up is just as bad.

    Did you guys...

Did you guys, and I mean OP as well as the posters, listen to the speech ? He said "Civics literacy" test. Big, huge, monsterous, difference than a plain literacy test. The latter tests your ability to read and comprehend the language, while the former tests your knowledge of the privileges and obligations of citizens. I thought that with citizenship , comes responsibility. I thought an imformed electorate is what our founding fathers wanted.

Now, that being said, it seems some of you actually need a literacy test, including the OP editorial staff. No wonder it is hard to have a discussion in this country any more. Please have the comprehension skills of a light bulb.

    Huh

    .

Really, to me at least this man sounds like a charlatan.

The "Judeo-Christian", catch phrase is nothing more than a religious Sham. There is Not such a thing, Christianity is what it is because is totally different and in an opposing ends with Judaism. Judaism is what it is because is in total opposition with, and Not parallel with what Christ preached, taught and demanded of them.

Christianity, and I'm posting about True "Christianity" is based on the Grace of God. Judaism as it is known, is totally based in a set of Rules and regulations , most of them without any Scriptural support . Like for example: everybody wearing black hats etc etc.

Historically this catch phrase has its roots at the end of the XIX c. and around the years of the WWII. Retaken and remaked in the 70's.

The ONLY Judeo-Christian if any, were those of whom we read about in the book of Acts. The Apostles, the Church in Jerusalem, the first Disciples. Everyone else after that is just Christian, unless of course he is also a Jew by ethnicity and wants to make the claim.
