Boston Red Sox En Fuego
Boston Red Sox hitters feasted on the Blue Jays’ pitching staff for the second straight afternoon on Sunday, as Boston pummeled the Toronto Blue Jays 14-1 at Rogers Centre. In the three-game series, the Red Sox outscored the Blue Jays 35-6 and outhit them 46-12. Jon Lester notched his league leading ninth best win and the 13-run drubbing was Boston’s ninth consecutive win, the longest streak in the Majors this season.
Remember when the Red Sox started 0-6 and 2-11? Wow, it’s hard to believe that was this year. After going 2-11 the Sox have gone 34-16. That’s .720 baseball over a 50 game stretch! The Red Sox lead the Yankees by two games in the AL East.
Tommy Hanson Fans 14 Astros
Tommy Hanson fanned a career-high 14 Astros to win his third consecutive start, and Brian McCann homered for the fourth time in his last four games against Houston as the Braves notched their sixth straight victory, 4-1, on Sunday. The Atlanta Braves have now won six in a row and eight of their last ten putting them just two games out of first place in the NL East and giving them the # 3 spot in our Week 11 MLB Power Rankings.
Ozzie Guillen Changes His Stance On Wrigley Field
Remember last year when Ozzie Guillen gave us his thought about Wrigley Field? He said, “… one thing about Wrigley Field, I puke every time I go there. That’s just to be honest. And if Cub fans don’t like the way I talk about Wrigley Field, it’s just Wrigley Field. I don’t say anything about the fans or anything now.” He didn’t stop there. “You are going to take batting practice and the rats look bigger than a pig out there. You want to take a look? I think the rats out there are lifting weights.”
Yesterday White Sox beat reporters tried to provoke some more Wrigley Field quotes from the Latin Casey Stengel as they told him that Peter Gammons said that Wrigley Field is a dump. In a surprising change of heart, Ozzie seems to now have affection towards Wrigley Field. Among other things Ozzie tells us that, Wrigley is a “monument”, and that “When people come to Chicago, they take the tours busses, they go by Wrigley Field.”
Also, Ozzie doesn’t think MLB owners should be told to spend money fixing their stadium because they may want to spend it ob ball players instead. After all, according to Ozzie, “$200 million is a lot of cake.”You can listen to the lovable Guilllen was poetically yourself below.
