Texas Rep. Ron Paul on Fox News -- Government is "Inept"

Texas Rep. Ron Paul appeared on Judge Napolitano's show on Fox News Tuesday night, talking about the government's job performance. He called the recent economic upturn "a delusion," and said government is not responsible for any economic growth. He also said he is not "seriously" considering running for president in 2012.

Isn't this one outstanding Fox News show... that for some reason isn't actually aired, but instead is streamed online and occasionally available on podcast? A strange way to promote a uniquely pro-Constitution program.

Ron Paul received a surprisingly large percentage of the vote , considering he was a third party candidate, in a time when most Americans were very polarized towards one party or the other. Now that so many Americans have proken away from the election -day hype and are dissatisfied with both parties, he has a huge opportunity to rally the people. Why aren't we hearing more of this guy?

He'd likely get assassinated.

Seriously, our fellow Americans suck at root cause analysis. They think his gripe is about some marginal part of the government , and that he is naive about modern government, because they are convinced of their convictions by political machinations Paul has not been willing to employ (buying and selling votes for the most part is what the big party candidates do to get their spot, literally and figuratively speaking).

But as much as I respect Ron Paul , we need to either all start over on a farm on public land and hit the restart button, or we it will take some serious economic Matrix action to unfubar the current system.

I am curious what his plan would be for replacing our monetay system and clearing all the debt without us collapsing from our own laziness and obesity .

RE: "I am curious what his plan would be for replacing our monetay system and clearing all the debt without us collapsing from our own laziness and obesity ."

From what I've seen of Paul, he generally advocates allowing the system to collapse. Advocate may be the wrong word, but that's the general idea. It's going to collapse anyhow, so the sooner that happens, the sooner a real fix could potentially be put in place. Paul also favors a return to the gold standard .

The problem with a new gold standard is if all the gold ever mined, in the entire history of the world, were matched to the global fiat currency supply, gold would be trading at over $110,000 per ounce. Without going into detail, a revaluation of gold at that level would potentially be a feasible mechanism for repairing a broken monetary system. Unfortunately, the streets would have to run knee deep in blood before anything like that could even potentially be put in place.

Paul calling government "inept" is disingenuous. It's very possibly the most liberty destroying misconception one may have of government. When in doubt, follow the money . Just because a thing doesn't benefit we the people, that doesn't mean it doesn't benefit someone. There is nothing "inept" about it. These things are carefully and craftily calculated, down to the last detail, by some of the top minds in the country. There IS government corruption, but very little incompetence.

Personally, I tend to mistrust those who engage in euphamisms, and who trade on misinformation. Paul does way too much of that. He tends to hit the target without ever hitting the bullseye. The scariest thing about Paul is his apparent embrace of libertarian "free markets". Ultimately, such a program has as much or more potential to destroy liberty as the level of corruption that currently exists.

In the mean time, stick to the three G's - gold, guns and groceries.

It's getting to the point that I'm starting to looking to alternatives to the United States. The depressing part is, the US is still the freest county in the world. With all these damn international laws making it impossible to start a new country and actually get your sovereign territory recognized, I'm running out of ideas.

I think the US is big enough where if you don't mind being off the grid or learning how to hunt or gather, you might live out your own life in privacy.

But I hope it does not come to that for me. I have some hope left, and if nothing else want to be around to say "I told you so" when it all comes tumbling down.

I hope Ron Paul is too.

Iceland is just as much of a socialist nightmare as the rest of Europe. We are looking for a MORE free country, not a less free one. The problem is that many countries look free, and then you find one major flaw, like say, they have a lot of economic freedoms, but you can't talk bad about the government and drug use is punishable by death. Or there will be a great deal of economic and personal freedom, but you must carry identification with you at all times and present it upon request. Or you can't own a gun, or some other such horrific violation of personal liberty.

ICEland seems pretty COOL.
