Teen Mom Amber Portwood Attempts Suicide

| by Celebrity Mound

Amber Portwood’s life has reportedly taken another tragic turn.

According to Star magazine, the “Teen Mom” cast member is in the hospital after an alleged suicide attempt.

The magazine’s source said Portwood, 21, was found unconscious in her home Tuesday after her on-and-off boyfriend, Gary Shirley, asked his mother to check on her.

“It’s believed she may have taken an overdose of some kind of pill,” the source claimed. “She also may have tried to tie a piece of rope or string around her neck.”

Portwood was reportedly taken by ambulance to an emergency room, where she regained consciousness and was stabilized.

The Herald Bulletin confirmed Portwood’s hospitalization, but reported she was taken uninjured for an evaluation after Anderson, Ind., police responded to call at a local residence.

According to police, Portwood was “depressed and threatening to end her life.”

Portwood and Shirley’s volatile relationship has been chronicled on the MTV reality series, where cameras follow the fledgling reality starlet as she cares for their 2-year-old daughter, Leah.

On Thursday, a judge in Madison, Ind., sentenced Portwood to probation after she pleaded guilty to two felony domestic battery charges.

The case stemmed from a September episode of “Teen Mom,” where she was seen assaulting Shirley in the presence of their daughter.

Portwood actually caught a break in the case, with prosecutors dropping a felony child neglect charge. She had faced up to three years in jail if convicted on all charges.

Before the plea deal, Portwood and Shirley were barred from having contact in Leah’s presence, but the judge reportedly amended that order.

As part of the agreement, however, Portwood is required to obtain her high school diploma, put $10,000 in a college fund for Leah and complete 30 days of inpatient therapy.

“Our understanding is that Amber has been admitted to a local hospital but we have not been able to confirm the accuracy of any reports being circulated and are waiting for further details,” MTV said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with her and we hope to hear more soon.”
