A Chinese teen identified only as "Little Wang" reportedly chopped off his left hand in an attempt to cure his Internet addiction.

The 19-year-old lives in Nantong, in China's Jiangsu province.

“We cannot accept what has happened. It was completely out of the blue. He was a smart boy,” his mother told the press, noted The Telegraph.

His mother said she went to check on her son in his bedroom on Jan. 28, and found a note that read, “Mum, I have gone to hospital for a while. Don't worry. I will definitely come back this evening."

The teen reportedly sneaked out of the home with a kitchen knife and cut his left hand off. He then called a cab to take him to a hospital, but left his hand on the ground.

Police recovered the hand and surgeons were able to reattach it, but it's not clear if he will have full use of his hand, reports the Daily Mail.
