Study: Spending Time on Facebook Can Cause Sad Feelings

| by Michael Allen

The University of Michigan has released a new study that found the longer people used Facebook during one time period the worse they felt.

The study followed 82 young adults for two weeks. All of the young adults had a Facebook account and smartphones, which researchers texted to and asked the young folks how they felt at that moment.

The study also concluded that the more young people used Facebook, the more their life satisfaction levels decreased, noted CBS Philadelphia.

“On the surface, Facebook provides an invaluable resource for fulfilling the basic human need for social connection, but rather than enhance well-being, we found that Facebook use predicts the opposite result, it undermines it,"said University of Michigan social psychologist Ethan Kross, lead author of the article.

There was no evidence that people were more likely to use Facebook when they felt bad.

The researchers want to test people from a wider age range for another Facebook study.
