Salvation Army Raising Funds for Controversial Anti-Porn Film (Video)

0

When most people think of the Salvation Army, helping the poor may come to mind. These days, however, the charity organization is getting behind a film that tries to link pornography to human sex trafficking.

The film's trailer (video below) states: "Pornography is prostitution for mass consumption," but later in the trailer, director Guy Noland claims: "Our goal for 'Hard Corps' is not to eliminate pornography."

The documentary is being produced by SAVN.tv, an online network funded by the Salvation Army, notes Storify.com.

The filmmakers are seeking funding through the crowd-sourcing website Kickstarter.com to complete the documentary.

However, Kickstarter.com does not allow projects to raise money for charitable purposes. Some donors to "Hard Corps" say the Salvation Army (a legal charity) is listed as the recipient of their donations.

Also, the film's trailer shows sex workers without their faces blurred to protect their identities, which some critics say could endanger their lives.

The "Hard Corps" Kickstarter.com page also boasts about interviews with porn stars, but one of those porn stars, Nina Hartley, recently wrote on Twitter: "I did not know that they would use my interview that way. I wonder if I have any rights here?"

In response, the "Hard Corps" Kickstarter page now states at the bottom in the FYI section: “Everyone on camera signed an appearance release form, allowing us to use their likeness on film.”

But on the Kickstarter page, there is also a picture (below) with the caption: "Undercover footage of legal brothels interviewing the women working there."

Additionally, Noland starts off the trailer bragging about the hidden camera in his glasses.

Why would undercover footage have to be shot if  “everyone on camera signed an appearance release form, allowing us to use their likeness on film?”
