"Sexting" has brought down another politician. A local New Jersey lawmaker has resigned after nude photos he sent to a woman turned up on a Republican activist's website.

According to a report in the New York Daily News, Louis Magazzu, a Democratic freeholder in Cumberland County, had been corresponding online with the woman in Chicago for several years. He said they never met.

The woman apparently turned the photos over to a man who despises Magazzu, a fellow named Carl Johnson who runs a website called Magazzuwatch.com.

"I did not know that she was working with an avowed political enemy to distribute these pictures," Magazzu said. "I have retained counsel to determine what laws may have been broken by the unauthorized distribution of those pictures."

The News said at least two photos show his crotch and one shows him from the waist up without a shirt.

The 53-year-old Magazzu has been separated from his wife for about two years.

Johnson did not seem particularly apologetic, although the photos do not appear to be on the website anymore.

"He should have stepped down a long time ago for many reasons. His brand of politics is harmful to the entire political process," Johnson told The Associated Press. "I'm sorry it had to happen this way."
