Will the Apple iPad 3 with Retina Display Arrive in Feb?

| by Mark Berman Opposing Views

Everybody loves a good Apple rumor, and the latest is that the iPad 3 in coming in February, and it will feature a retina display.

A retina display is a high-resolution screen. CNET reports it will be 2048x1536. In contrast, the current iPad 2 is 1024x768.

CNET said three different suppliers are hard at work to provide the screens.

"I would imagine there would be concerns about [adequate] supply given the resolution of the display but you've got three different suppliers at this point. They should have enough to launch the product," said Richard Shim, an analyst at DisplaySearch.

Business Insider reports that Citi analyst Richard Gardner said "several sources" have told him the launch could come in February, saying "there do not appear to be any significant technical hurdles remaining."

CNET is also reporting that Apple is considering a mini-iPad of sorts with a smaller screen.

"If there's demand there. There's no reason they wouldn't build a 7.85-inch iPad," Shim said.

If that happens, it wouldn't be until the second half of 2012.
