Active cell phone users are in danger of suffering a new medical condition called 'texting thumb,' reports CBS Philadelphia.

Texting thumb is actually a form of tendinitis and is becoming one of the more common ailments seen today by doctors.

Dr. Eon Shin, an orthopedic surgeon at the According to Jefferson University Hospital, told CBS Philadelphia that the popularity of cell phones and computers have led to the overuse of hands and wrists, especially among young people.

Dr. Shin said that most people with texting thumb can heal by resting their thumb and/or by  physical therapy.

However, people with serious texting thumb may have to get surgery that involves a half inch incision in the bottom of the thumb that allows the inflamed tendon to move more freely.
