"Sweet Valley High" Book Series Returns

| by Kate Wharmby Seldman

The "Sweet Valley High" book series is back, and its heroines, twins Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield, are all grown up. "Sweet Valley Confidential: Ten Years Later," is set to be released on March 29, 2011. In the new book, the Wakefield twins are now 27 years old and living apart. Jessica hasn't left Sweet Valley: she's in the middle of a divorce, and, for reasons we'll find out as the story unfolds, Elizabeth - who's now a reporter in New York City - isn't talking to her.

Author Francine Pascal created the Sweet Valley High book series in 1983, and ended it in 2003. It was well loved by many women who were tweens and teens in the '80s. There are 152 books in the series, which also includes spin-offs Sweet Valley University Sweet Valley Kids, and Sweet Valley Junior High. The first book in the series was "Double Love," in which Jessica and Elizabeth fight for the affections of a boy named Todd Wilkins. A Sweet Valley High TV series was on the air from 1994 to 1997, and starred twins Brittany and Cynthia Daniel as the Wakefields. It ran for 88 episodes. There's recently been talk of a Sweet Valley High musical in the works.

The first chapter of "Sweet Valley Confidential: Ten Years Later," is available to read online here.
