A teenager in Nepal reportedly committed suicide after her beloved Brazilian soccer team lost 7-1 to Germany in the World Cup semifinals, according to the Daily News.
Pragya Thapa, who was just 15, lived in eastern Nepal with her grandparents while her father was working abroad. The high school sophomore was reportedly a huge Brazil fan and was looking forward to the game last Tuesday.
“She was anxious to see Brazil in the final, but it went down to Germany,” said Sharad Thapa, a Nepal police inspector. “Some of her friends started teasing her for supporting Brazil. Later in the morning, she took an extreme measure by hanging herself in her own room.”
Police say the teen was thought to be studying in her bedroom after discussing the game with friends. Her mother, who along with her sister was a fan of the German team, according to Bindas News, found Pragya dead and hanging from the ceiling, reports Fox Sports.
Pragya was in tenth grade at the Morning Star Boarding School in Itahari in the Sansari district of east Nepal. Her body has been sent for an autopsy and police are continuing to investigate the incident.
