New York Red Bulls youth soccer coach, Michael Jones, was killed early Sunday morning near New York City's Union Square.
According to the New York Post, the attack is believed to have occurred at 4:17 a.m. on West 14th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues. Initially it was thought that this unfortunate tragedy was the byproduct of a robbery gone awry, however, police now insist that Jones had both his wallet and iPhone on him when they arrived.
What makes this killing all the stranger is that, according to police, Jones could be seen walking with his attacker down the street a few minutes before the eventual assault. His body, bloodied and with one ear missing, was found outside a building on W. 14th St. at 4:26 a.m. He was quickly transported to Bellevue Hospital – unfortunately the doctors couldn’t save him.
Jones, 25, worked as a coach for Armonk United – the New York Red Bulls’ youth soccer training program.

"He was a tremendous individual, a fantastic coach who loved soccer, and a terrific friend for many of us."
Jones’ attacker is believed to be a Hispanic male between 25 and 30 years old. Police released this video of him from the night in question, hoping that someone who knows him may step forward and provide some information on his whereabouts.
