If you aren’t a passionate supporter of Austrian soccer, you may have missed last Sunday’s showdown between Rapid Vienna and Red Bull Salzburg. Don’t worry about it if you did. By all accounts, it was a largely forgettable game with just one amazingly fantastic moment to speak of.
With Rapid Vienna up by two and 79 minutes already having gone by, Salzburg was given a penalty kick and an opportunity redeem themselves a bit. They would lose no matter what, but at least they could go down fighting.
They did not go down fighting.
Jonathan Soriano stepped up to take the kick for his side and, well, it wasn’t pretty.
