Champions League Video: Messi Scores 5 Goals, Leads Barcelona Past Bayer Leverkusen

| by Alex Groberman

Scoring five goals in any professional soccer contest is no easy feat. Doing it at the highest level, during a Champions League showdown, is straight up otherworldly. Or so we thought.

Lionel Messi has done a lot of brilliant things over the course of his stellar career, but even he probably didn’t foresee ever having the type of day he wound up having on Wednesday. Barcelona took on Bayer Leverkusen with a fairly simple task in mind: win, advance to the quarterfinals. Not only did the club end up winning the game and advancing, though, they won the game in dominating fashion. The final score when it was all said and done was 7-1, and five of those goals belonged to none other than three time Player of the Year, Messi.
