More and more speculation continues to leak out about the reasons behind the drop-off in NBA player Lamar Odom’s skills on the court and it doesn’t have all that much to do with his status as a reality TV star. It’s been widely reported that Odom, 33, (who is married to Khloe Kardashian) has been battling a problem with "hard-core drug abuse" over the past two years.
Kardashian reportedly forced Odom to enter into rehab last August and went so far as to hire private security to ensure that he didn’t leave the 24/7 facility in San Diego.
Odom spent three weeks in the rehab facility and was clean throughout last season with the Los Angeles Clippers, the The Sporting News reported, but he started using "hardcore recreational drugs" when the team was eliminated from the playoffs.
The Kardashian family held an intervention with Odom earlier this week but he refused to cooperate. It was revealed in April of 2011 that Odom’s father, Joe, is a heroin addict.
The Clippers and new head coach Doc Rivers were reportedly working to re-sign Odom, but it is unclear how these recent revelations will affect that situation.
Odom was taken by the Clippers with the fourth overall in the 1999 NBA draft. He was named to the NBA All-Rookie first team in 2000 and won two championships with the Lakers in 2009 and 2010.
