MLB Rumors: Philadelphia Phillies to Shut Down Roy Halladay?
Philadelphia Phillies ace Roy Halladay had an awful start Saturday against the Atlanta Braves. He didn’t even complete two innings before he gave up seven earned runs. That’s very un-Roy Halladay-esque.
But, there could be a bigger problem. According to Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Halladay had some shoulder spasms on Friday and saw a doctor.
“Halladay saw doctor yesterday. Said he had mild spasms in his shoulder. No MRI. Believes he can finish season,” Gelb tweets.
I don’t know if that’s such a hot idea. With the St. Louis Cardinals winning today and the Phillies losing, the Phightins are now four games back of the Wild Card with 10 games left to play. If you have no shot at the playoffs, just shut him down for the year.
Everyone likes to think that Halladay is a horse who will never break down, but he’s not a kid anymore. He should be handled with care, and if that means shutting him down then so be it.
