Video: Pole Vaulter Dmitry Starodubtsev’s Pole Breaks Mid-Jump

| by Alex Groberman

Who knew pole vaulting could be so exciting?

During a recent attempt at vaulting approximately 19 feet in the air at the World Championships in Daegu, South Korea, Dmitry Starodubtsev’s pole snapped mid-way up. Of course, the Russian came flailing to the ground and ultimately lost in somewhat embarrassing fashion. Despite the humbling defeat, though, he brought some much-needed attention to a sport that centers around using long sticks to jump over horizontally placed sticks.
