Stephanie Rice Lands in Hot Water over Racy Pictures

| by Alex Groberman

Olympic swimmer Stephanie Rice landed in some hot water recently when she posted a photo of herself in a skimpy swimsuit on Twitter – much to the chagrin of her native fans in Australia. The outrage (or faux outrage, depending on who you ask) essentially stems from people thinking that a woman taking mildly racy photos of herself in a revealing bikini is unbecoming of an Olympic athlete.

Yes, you read that correctly – people think that a woman who wears a swimsuit for a living taking pictures of herself in a swimsuit is inappropriate.

Just to put this in perspective: the only reason Rice even took the photo in the first place is because that bikini was a gift from designer Ellie Gonsalves. A gift that, presumably, the senders wanted to see a famous Olympic swimmer wear in public.

Here is the photo, see if you can figure out what the indignation is about:

For what it’s worth, this isn’t the first time that the three-time gold medalist has gotten in trouble for interesting photos.

She previously got some criticism for this photo, too (via Yahoo! Sports):

Listen, Rice currently holds the world record in the 400 m women's individual medley – that means she can post anything she wants on Twitter. When you have a world record, then you can judge her.
