2012 Olympics Video: Michael Phelps Beats Ryan Lochte, Wins 200 IM

| by Alex Groberman

Michael Phelps only beat Ryan Lochte by .63 seconds in Thursday’s men’s 200 IM battle, but they don’t include margin of victory on medal inscriptions.

In what was perhaps the most fun-to-watch race to date, Phelps put on an exhibition against his so-called rival en route to a record 16th gold medal. Beginning with the butterfly leg and ending with the backstroke – Lochte never looked like he had a chance. He ultimately finished the race in 1:54.90 – good for a silver medal.

Hungary’s Laszlo Cseh finished third with a time of 1:56.22.

Update: Since people were complaining about quality, here is a better version via SportsGrid:

With this victory, Phelps became the first male swimmer to earn a win in the same event at three consecutive Olympics.
