NHL Video: Penguins Sidney Crosby Stellar in Return

| by Alex Groberman

One of the saddest sports stories to emerge over the last year was the seeming derailment of Sidney Crosby’s career. Once heralded as the best player in the entire NHL, Crosby had been sidelined since his January-sustained concussion and folks wondered if he would ever be able to return to be the same caliber player he once was.

Turns out, they shouldn’t have worried so much.

In his return on Monday night, Crosby led his Pittsburgh Penguins to a 5-0 victory over the New York Islanders. It took him all of five minutes and 24 seconds to score his first of two goals. When it was all said and done, he had two assists, played 21 shifts and won 14 of 21 faceoffs.

Not bad for a night’s work.

“I can't even describe it,” Crosby said. “I was excited. I was anxious. I had a lot of different things going through my mind. But the main thing was just enjoying playing. That's what I've missed the last 10 months.

“The summer was a little tougher than I thought it was going to be, but that's the nature of those things. It's not easy to really gauge. You have to be careful. I'm really happy to be back.”
