It's the off-season and we are waiting for the pre-season games to starts. While we wait, we have brought the guys together at the Grits Blitz roundtable so pull up a chair and listen to what we have to say and feel free to chime in with your answers as well.
So far we have talked about position battles, the games we are most looking forward to, who will be the most improved player for the Falcons in 2012 and which offensive player will benefit the most from the addition of Dirk Koetter. Today, we talk about which defensive player will benefit the most from the hire of Mike Nolan.
Matt: I want to go with Corey Peters. He is a great player hitting his third season and is versatile enough to get reps in any defensive formation on the field. Mike Nolan is great at improving players' pass rush skills so we could see Peters get to the quarterback much more than he has the past two seasons.
Zach: I believe Sean Weatherspoon will benefit the most from the aggressive D that Mike Nolan will implement in Atlanta. Not only is Spoon great in coverage and against the run, but he is also a very good pass rusher. Spoon was tied for second on the team for sacks with four. However, don't let that fool you as Spoon was in the top ten of the most productive pass rushers according to PFF. Weatherspoon rarely blitzed, but when he did he was very effective. Don't be surprised if he puts up even better numbers this year.
Kevin: If I say Dunta Robinson will you cart me off to the loony bin? Dunta will move inside and will play a lot of nickel this year in Nolan's philosophy. Of course, this is also thanks to the trade for Asante Samuel. I would expect Robinson to play a lot better in his new role as he will be put in better situations to use his abilities.
