NFL and USC legend, Junior Seau, was reportedly found dead in his Oceanside, Calif. home on Wednesday. According to TMZ, the incident appears to be related to a shooting – though details are still murky at this point.
Update 1: The same TMZ report notes that, prior to his death, Seau sent text messages to his ex-wife and 3 kids on Tuesday saying, "Love you." Law enforcement now believes this may have been a suicide.
Over the course of almost 20 years in the NFL -- with the San Diego Chargers, Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots -- Seau racked up 12 Pro Bowl and 10 All Pro nods. He was inducted into the San Diego Chargers Hall of Fame in November 2011.
Back in 2010, Seau was famously involved in a car accident after he apparently fell asleep behind the wheel. There was initially suspicion that the accident was some sort of a suicide attempt because it came on the heels of Seau being arrested for allegedly attacking his girlfriend; however, he consistently maintained that it was an unintended occurrence.
Seau leaves behind three children.
Keep it locked, we'll update this story as more information comes in.
Update 2: Seau died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.
Update 3: He is the 8th member of the 1994 Chargers to end up dead.
