Ravens Appear to be This Year’s Team of Destiny

If we are going based on statistics, the Ravens should not be anywhere near where they are right now.  In fact, in terms of total offense and defense, they shouldn’t have made the playoffs at all.  But somehow, be it coaching, clutch play, or luck, they have managed to win games that they have no business winning all year long.

The world (me included) was shocked at the happenings against the Broncos on Saturday; should we have been though?  Should we wonder how a team that was overmatched on both sides of the ball beat the hottest team in the NFL led by one of the greatest of all time?  Maybe the Ravens are just meant to win it all this year.  But I still don’t buy it.

One thing is for sure: Baltimore went into Denver and beat probably the best team in the league.  Yeah it took one of the worst misplays by a safety that you’ll ever see, but they still won the game.  Now the Ravens will be heading to Foxboro to take on the Patriots.  The numbers -- and common sense -- say that the Pats should be a huge favorite in this game.  I doubt Tom Brady and company will have any trouble moving the ball up and down the field.  That being said, you never know.  The Ravens will be able to move the ball and control the clock due to the weak Patriots defense and Tom Brady can’t score if he’s on the sideline.

I don’t know if the Ravens are the team of destiny.  I do know that of all the teams in the NFL they’ll have had the most difficult road to the Super Bowl.  On paper, this game shouldn’t be that close.  But that’s why the games aren’t played on paper.
