Philadelphia Eagles Clearly Don't Want Asante Samuel

| by Off The Record

After the Philadelphia Eagles acquired Nnamdi Asomugha and traded for Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Asante Samuel immediately became the subject of trade speculation. Whether or not the Eagles were actively shopping him at that point, we don’t know. But the topic came up again prior to last Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline.

And as far as Asante is concerned, it wasn’t just media rumors. He feels like the Eagles don’t want him, and he doesn’t like it.

“Definitely, it doesn’t sit well with me,” Samuel said. “Definitely, I’ve been nothing but what they expected me to be when they brought me there. . . . Definitely, it doesn’t sit well with me. And obviously they don’t want me there, so life goes on. So we’ll see where I’ll be at.”

However, just because the team doesn’t want him, he says that it won’t affect his play.

“Well, as long as I’m getting paid I’m gonna do my job,” Samuel continued. “So whoever [is] cutting the check, I do my job. . . . So I’m not worried about that. I just know in the back of my head they don’t want me there. So, you know, that’s not gonna leave. They put it out there so everybody could know that, so I know that and everybody knows that. So it’s in the back of my head. And Asante Samuel is a business entity first, so I’m going to make sure I handle my business accordingly.”

And it’s only the bye-week for the Eagles! Not only is their play on the field lacking big time, their locker room ain’t exactly harmonious either.
