NFL Rumors: Are the Jaguars, Jets Discussing a Tim Tebow Trade?

| by Alex Groberman

The New York Jets’ acquisition of Tim Tebow was peculiar from the very beginning. It came right after Mark Sanchez got an extension. It came with no explanations regarding how Tebow would be utilized. It came on the heels of a season where, after Kyle Orton struggled, the fans made it unbearable for their Denver Broncos to do anything other than plug Tebow into the starting lineup.

Any which way you want to look at – this trade didn’t make sense.

Nine weeks into the season, the Jets are proving all of their doubters right. The team is an absolute mess right now, and Sanchez’s recent woes have fans clamoring for Tebow to get the starting nod. Problem is: Rex Ryan won’t give in. Repeatedly, New York’s bombastic head coach has made it clear that Sanchez is his guy and that he will remain the team’s starting quarterback no matter what. Which means Tebow will continue to waste away on the bench and in an assortment of running back sets that don’t fit his style at all.

Unless the Jets trade him, of course.

Is Tebow being traded a feasible possibility? Yes, according to an interesting new report from Action News Jacksonville (via Larry Brown Sports). As reported by them:

Tim Tebow could soon be a part of our home team. Sources tell Action Sports, the Jaguars are making a play to trade for Tebow before the trade deadline this Thursday.

The deadline was supposed to be today. It was pushed back a couple days because of Superstorm Sandy, which hit New York hard. It just so happens, that's where Tebow plays now for the Jets.

Action Sports is working to confirm the possibility that Tebow could be headed home. We've called Jags owner Shad Khan, who said publicly that he would've drafted Tebow. Action Sports also put a call into Jags General Manager Gene Smith, who made a play for Tebow in the offseason.

For what it’s worth, as noted by Larry Brown Sports, far more reputable football minds than the guys above have said repeatedly that Tebow isn’t going to be traded. Barring some new developments, it makes sense to put more credence into what they are reporting – for now.

That said, this Jets-Tebow experiment remains as strange today as it was the day it began, so the idea of him getting moved is actually very logical. When was the last time the Jets did anything logical, though? Yeah, he’s definitely staying in New York.
