We talked last week about the signing of Kroy Biermann being "imminent". Well today was that day. Biermann signed a three-year contract that could be worth up to $12 million. The Biermann signing comes on the heels of the Falcons also locking up safety Thomas Decoud. These aren't earth shattering signing like a Mario Williams signing would be but they are both needed signings.
After starting 14 games in 2010, Biermann took more of a backseat with the addition of Ray Edwards and only started one game last season. He managed 2.5 sacks (down only 0.5 from the year before but only half of his output from 2009). Biermann will likely be used as a situational pass rusher in 2012, unless Mike Nolan can get his secret weapon finished. Here's a fact you might not know....Biermann has scored a TD in each of the last three seasons. I like the signing and I hope he can have somewhat of a resurgence this year with the likely exit of John Abraham.
With Decoud and Biermann re-signed and Brent Grimes tagged now the Falcons look at the rest of their Free Agents. Of course there is Curtis Lofton and John Abraham. After that we have (list courtesy of D Orlando Ledbetter):
offensive tackle Kirk Chambers, wide receiver Harry Douglas, cornerback Kelvin Hayden, tight end Reggie Kelly, center Todd McClure, linebacker Mike Peterson, quarterback Chris Redman, offensive guard/center Brett Romberg, running back Jason Snelling, wide receiver Eric Weems and long snapper Joe Zelenka.
Out of that group the two guys that I would really like to see back are Todd McClure (we need the stability of another year with him on the OL) and Harry Douglas (would love to see what he can do in a different offensive system).
