Michael Vick Admits that He Owns a Dog Now

| by Alex Groberman

The worst kept secret ever is officially out: Michael Vick owns a dog again.

Last week, Vick posted a picture of himself and his daughter sitting at table together to Twitter. No big deal, right? Just an NFL quarterback showing his human side.

Sure, in theory.

But the problem sat directly to their right in the form of an open box of Milk-Bone dog biscuits. Shortly after the tweet went up it was removed – and then quickly replaced with the very same picture, less the box.

He basically told on himself.

Vick, you will recall, served 19 months in prison for owning and operating a dogfighting ring. As part of that whole mess, he was prohibited from owning a dog for three years. That three years is up, however, a lot of folks (understandably) still feel as though his past should preclude the Eagles quarterback from owning a dog again.

Sucks for those people. He does and, on Thursday, he came out and admitted it via public statement.

“I understand the strong emotions by some people about our family’s decision to care for a pet,” Vick said (via Philadelphia Inquirer). “As a father, it is important to make sure my children develop a healthy relationship with animals.

“I want to ensure that my children establish a loving bond and treat all of God’s creatures with kindness and respect. Our pet is well cared for and loved as a member of our family. This is an opportunity to break the cycle. To that end, I will continue to honor my commitment to animal welfare and be an instrument of positive change.”

So there you have it. What do you think: is it okay that Vick has a dog again?
