Jets Lose Santonio Holmes for Year, Replace Him with Former 49ers Wide Receiver Jason Hill

| by Alex Groberman

The New Jets have had miserable luck through the first four weeks of this NFL season, and it doesn’t look as though their fortunes are going to change anytime soon. On Wednesday, in a totally unsurprising announcement, the team let it be known that wide receiver Santonio Holmes would miss the rest of the year with an injured left foot.

''Obviously, that's a big loss for us,'' Jets coach Rex Ryan said (via FOX Sports). ''Santonio's one of the top receivers in the game, and it is a big loss.''

So, who did New York pick up to replace Holmes, you ask? No, not Terrell Owens. No, not Plaxico Burress. No, not Chad Johnson.

Give up? What a coincidence, so have Jets fans.

The team signed free agent wide receiver Jason Hill to replace Holmes. A Washington State product, Hill was selected in the third round of the 2007 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers. After three largely unmemorable seasons, he gut cut and eventually picked up by the Jacksonville Jaguars. From there he just kind of floated around the league before eventually landing in New York.

Over the course of his five seasons in the NFL Hill has recorded 76 receptions for 1,028 yards and eight touchdowns.
