LaVon Brazill wasn’t the only low-profile wide receiver in the NFL to get hit with a four game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy on Monday.
You can add Brandon Collins of the New York Giants to the list now too. Like Brazill, Collins hit with a four game ban, but can participate in all the team’s offseason activities and play in the preseason. Collins is eligible to return to Giants active roster on September 30th, just a day after they will have played the Kansas City Chiefs.
For the undrafted free-agent receiver the timing of this suspension couldn’t have been any worse. He was just starting to get more reps in practices due to the absences of Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks, and was apparently performing relatively well. The Giants also have one of the deeper receiving corps in the league and it wasn’t all that likely he’d have made the team anyways. This suspension just makes it all the less likely.
Collins spent last season on the Giants practice squad, and will most likely spend a large part of this one looking for a new squad entirely. Will be interesting to see how he bounces back from this.
