NFL Rumors: Falcons to Keep Will Svitek?
The Falcons are facing a lot of decisions this off-season and that starts with their 14 unrestricted free agents. We will go through them one by one and decide whether or not the Falcons should re-sign them. A lot of times it's not as easy as it looks as some decisions have more than just roster spot implications. We also have to think about the salary cap as it is expected to increase by just $200,000 this season.
Will Svitek has been a good contributor for the Atlanta Falcons since he joined the team in 2009. From 2009 to 2011, Svitek played in 45 games for the Falcons and started 12 including 10 starts in 2011. In 2012, Svitek was slotted in as the back-up left tackle but was also cross trained for other OL positions to help out if needed. Unfortunately, Svitek suffered a pre-season arm injury and missed the entire year.
We asked our twitter followers if we should re-sign Svitek and here is what they said:
@gritsblitzblog absolutely not. This year we need a healthy and complete team

Much like our last free agent decision it sounds like the Falcons fanbase wants to go in a different direction. I tend to agree and it's mainly because of price tag. Svitek made $1.75 million last season (and had a cap number of $2.31 million due to signing bonus). If Svitek could be had for a significantly less number I would be interested in keeping him due to his versatility.
Verdict: Players coming off injury are definitely a question mark and unless a significant discount is given I would have to say the Falcons should let Svitek sign elsewhere.
