Video: Brady Quinn Gives a Great Speech After Chiefs vs. Panthers

| by Alex Groberman

The Kansas City Chiefs earned a 27-21 victory over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. In light of the tragedy that had befallen their team and extended family, nobody expected any of the Chiefs players to issue particularly eloquent statements after the game. Dealing with a tragic happening is difficult enough when you don’t have a microphone in your face; having to do so while also saying the right stuff at a media gathering must be unbearable.

And that’s why, in the aftermath of that Chiefs victory, folks expected responses sort of like the one Romeo Crennel offered. An acknowledgment of everything that happened, an admission that it would be easier to not talk about the events at that particular moment in time, and a polite goodbye.

Brady Quinn decided to do something different, though. While reflectinfg on everything that happened over the previous 24 hours, Quinn offered the sort of poignant commentary that nobody had even thought to offer prior.

“The one thing people can hopefully try to take away, I guess, is the relationships they have with people,” Quinn said (via the Washington Post). “I know when it happened, I was sitting and, in my head, thinking what I could have done differently.  When you ask someone how they are doing, do you really mean it?  When you answer someone back how you are doing, are you really telling the truth?

This judge looked an inmate square in the eyes and did something that left the entire courtroom in tears:

“We live in a society of social networks, with Twitter pages and Facebook, and that’s fine, but we have contact with our work associates, our family, our friends, and it seems like half the time we are more preoccupied with our phone and other things going on instead of the actual relationships that we have right in front of us. Hopefully, people can learn from this and try to actually help if someone is battling something deeper on the inside than what they are revealing on a day-to-day basis.”

Beautifully said. Really beautifully said.
