Chicago Bears Return Man Devin Hester is Still Amazing

| by Alex Groberman

Generally speaking, people’s opinion on whether or not Chicago Bears speedster Devin Hester deserves to be in the NFL Hall of Fame depends on whether or not their eyes work.

Folks who can’t see what Hester does on the field and are forced to hear about it, aren’t especially impressed. The people who see the magic that Hester brings to every football game, though, there is never a doubt in their minds.

During a recent interview on "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000, all-Bear everything Brian Urlacher couldn’t help but repeatedly praise Hester.

"He changes every football game he's in," Urlacher said. "You can punt out of bounds or you get ready to give up a touchdown. That's the bottom line. He changes everything you do.

"He's the greatest of all time at what he does, and in my opinion, when you're the greatest of all time at your position you should be in the Hall of Fame. He is a first-ballot Hall of Famer in my opinion. He's going to have 30-something touchdown returns if people keep kicking to him. It's a no-brainer for me. I just don't see how people can not agree with that."

Hester, of course, recorded his 12th career punt return for a touchdown on Sunday as his Bears pummeled (literally) the Detroit Lions. His 18 return touchdowns puts him one behind Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, who took 188 games to get to his mark. To date, Hester has only played in 85.

"Every kickoff return or punt return I'm standing on the sideline watching," Urlacher said. "Everyone gets off the bench and goes up and watches.

"You know something special is about to happen. If you kick it to him, it's going to be a touchdown."

And what does Urlacher think of teams still kicking to Hester?

"It's just pure stupidity, if you ask me.”

Not too long ago, we at Opposing Views came to the same conclusion.
