Norv Turner and A.J. Smith should be fired at the end of this season. Everyone pretty much agrees on that. Will they actually be fired, though? That remains to be seen.
Earlier this week, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported that Dean Spanos made up his mind last month to get rid of the two people most to blame for the San Diego Chargers being such perennial underachievers.
Given the fact that San Diego has lost seven of its last eight games – the report made sense. In fact, it was probably welcomed with joy by most Chargers fans.
Unfortunately, according to Spanos, it may not be true.

"There is only one person in this organization who will make those decisions and that's me, and I haven't shared my thoughts with anyone,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
“I will make my evaluations at the end of the season. Anything coming out now — from sources or otherwise — is pure speculation."
In most cases a statement like that can simply be chalked up to damage control and ignored. However, seeing as Spanos tuned out the chorus of chants to get rid of Turner and Smith last year, the notion of him keeping those two around for one more year isn’t exactly farfetched.
Sorry, Chargers fans.
