New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin is a really sourly guy, so him getting into a tiff with someone probably shouldn’t be all that surprising. That said, despite the fact that we sort of expect a bad attitude from Coughlin at all times, one would think that he would be too happy for all that nonsense after his team mustered up a a really impressive come-from-behind effort versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.
Nope – being overly happy for needless confrontation is not a problem Coughlin has, apparently. Here was him and Bucs coach Greg Schiano after the game:
Now, to be fair, Coughlin did have a legitimate gripe with the Bucs. At the end of the game, with Eli Manning taking a knee (presumably tired from his 510-yard, 3-touchdown, 3-interception display), a Tampa Bay defensive player pointlessly went after him instead of just letting him do what he was going to do. Everyone knew that there wasn’t going to be a fumble on that play so, yeah, it was totally stupid.
But because it happened to a Tom Coughlin-coached team, you can probably chalk the whole thing up to karmic justice and move on.
