Tampa Bay Buccaneers to Black Out Preseason Home Opener vs. Tennessee Titans

0

The good news for Tampa Bay Bucs fans is that the team has lowered its blackout threshold to 85% of capacity. The bad news is that the team still hasn’t sold enough tickets to avoid a blackout for Friday night’s preseason game against the Tennessee Titans.

This isn’t altogether surprising, but it is still disappointing.

What a way to start the season.

Why would fans not buy enough tickets? Perhaps it’s because NFL owners charge regular season prices for preseason games, despite the fact that preseason games are clearly an inferior product.

Or perhaps it’s because the Bucs have suffered so many blackouts over the last few years that fans have quit following the team. Indeed, it may seem that the Bucs — and the NFL — are finally seeing what happens when you black out a fan base — no one cares anymore.

While the Bucs deserve credit for trying to lower their blackout threshold, the NFL and its band of owners still insist on enforcing blackouts despite how unethical and ultimately futile they are.

Don’t be surprised if there are more blackouts for the Bucs this season given the NFL’s insistence on killing any interest that Bucs fans may have in the beginning of the season…
