Panthers Steve Smith: Tim Tebow “Wouldn’t be on My Son’s Flag Football Team”

| by Alex Groberman

Not everyone is a Tebowliever, apparently.

A lot of people have speculated on what exactly makes Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow the consummate winner that he is. Could it be his unorthodox throwing style? The fact that he saves himself for the last two minutes of every game by being awful for 95 percent of the rest of it? His special connection with the big football fan in the sky?

It’s all possible. What is indisputable, though, is that Tebow does know how to win. And that should make every other player in the league want to play alongside him, right?

Not so much.

Here is what Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith had to say to Dave Dameshek recently regarding Denver’s shining star:

“I don’t want to be one of the those guys like everybody saying ‘oh he’s not this’ — he’s winning,” Smith said. “But at the end of the day, you can’t be 3-10 for three quarters and you go into the fourth quarter. Because Tim Tebow is ‘Tebow Time’ I keep hearing, but nobody is giving credit to who deserves it — which is that defense, because it’s playing lights out.”

“Everybody wants to say Tim Tebow is that difference maker,” Smith said, “he wouldn’t be on my son’s flag football team.”

To be fair, Tebow isn’t even playing up to his full potential right now. Imagine how good he’d be if these games took place on water.
