Denver Broncos Vice President John Elway Endorses Mitt Romney

| by Alex Groberman

On the same day that New York Jets owner Woody Johnson made headlines for proclaiming that electing Mitt Romney President was more important to him than his own team, John Elway made a big political announcement of his own.

On Monday, Elway -- the Denver Broncos’ Vice President of football operations -- decided to endorse Romney and Paul Ryan publicly with this heartfelt statement:

"Governor Romney is a proven leader with the experience and background to turn around our struggling economy," said John Elway (via Deadspin).

"In these tough economic times, we need a president who understands how to get America working again – by standing on the side of taxpayers and small-business owners who do the real job creating. I am endorsing Governor Romney and Congressman Ryan for President and Vice President because I know having the courage to make decisions and tackle challenges is what leads to results and real change. America needs a comeback team – Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are that team."

So there you go. The Republican ticket is now officially backed by the guy overseeing an overrated 2-2 squad that will make the postseason by default because of how awful their division is, but that is guaranteed to do zero damage once it's there.

Congratulations, Mr. Romney.
