3rd Grader Konnor Vanatta Can't Wear Peyton Manning Jersey, '18' is Gang Number
In Greeley, Colorado, students and parents are upset about a policy that restricts them from wearing Peyton Manning's jersey to school due to the number 18, which is associated with a Los Angeles gang.
According to the Daily Mail, third grade student Konnor Vanatta was told to not wear Manning's jersey again because "it's a gang number."
It's not just the students who are upset about the clothing restriction, parents are equally angered.
"I'm pretty upset the schools have come down to this and I think they need to start paying attention to the education the children are getting rather than what they're wearing," Konnor's mother, Pam Vannatta, said.
The number 18 is just one of many numbers that are restricted in the school district. Weld County District Six said the numbers 13, 14, 18, 31, 41, and 81 are all restricted, and have been for over three years.
"We're Broncos fans ourselves; it has nothing to do with that. We're just wanting to set a consistent, solid example," said district spokesperson Roger Fiedler.
Vanatta did not let the school district stop him from wearing jerseys, as he wore a No. 61 jersey to school on Tuesday in an effort to protest the policy.
Eighteen is associated with the 18th Street gang in LA.
The Broncos quarterback was signed with the Indianapolis Colts, but was injured and did not play. During the off season, he was signed with the Broncos, giving hope to Broncos fans that their team may make the playoffs this year.
The team's season takes off this Sunday with the Broncos playing the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Not all schools are this
Not all schools are this stupid, thank goodness. I'm happy to see such idiocy exposed by the media. National Ridicule can change even the stupid.
Around LA, the gang members
Around LA, the gang members also love to wear Raiders stuff.
If they cannot keep from
If they cannot keep from acting stupidly, the schools should simply have required school uniforms.
Greeley, Colorado is nowhere
Greeley, Colorado is nowhere NEAR Los Angeles. Any number is associated with SOMETHING, and if one is willing to look far enough afield, any number can be associated with almost ANYTHING, I dare say.
If 18 was the number of a notorious Greeley, Colorado gang, they might have a point - but only MIGHT, I say.
I would like to know if
I would like to know if banning any of these numbers has improved the problems with fights, etc., the school may have, or is still, experiencing. I would also like to know if the school were to take a poll, would any of these children in Colorado be aware at all of what is happening in L.A.? What kid would know the gangs in a far away city, or even care?

Keep yer powder dry!
You can't make good judgement
You can't make good judgement via rules, but they keep trying. Unless you can prove that something is "gang related" or involved in illegal activity more than 50% of the time, trying to ban it is both stupid and likely a violation of most people's rights.
If only school administrators weren't so afraid of doing their jobs and trying to get a book of rules to do it for them.
Censorship is intruding even
Censorship is intruding even further in reach! First, a racial ethnicity mandated the only words in which that ethnicity could be described; this expanded to other ethnicities. Then, in a court made infamous by a jury swayed — not only by ignorance and illogic, but by political correctness and emotion — the English-speaking world was introduced to "starts with...-" conceptual, word management. Thus it began: the "n-word." Quickly following this perversity, we were introduced to the "b-word"and "c-word." One might note that there are only 23 other words which would be left in the English language, under this rule of euphemistically-correct construction. (I do not note the remainder here — but every letter is now "taken" and one now needs reliance on context to convey concepts. To expand our permissible 26-word vocabulary, "sounds like" words allow "depth" of communication.)
Now, NUMBERS have further restricted us! The beauty of this is that the reach of impermissibility is infinite! 26 words and all numbers! Wow! Who'da thunk it‽ No wonder the rest of the world says, "Americans are crazy!"
Out of curiosity, I wonder how their big-government-mandated sex-education classes teach 68+1?
"Freedom" is now among the "f-words" — a government-imposed limitation. "1" is included in government-regulated discourse as describing individuality and also relates to religion, a politically incorrect topic, and therefore banned.
Sheesh! (Not yet a punishable word. Stay tuned for breaking news on this word and other possibilities!)

Me thinks that schools are
Me thinks that schools are becoming overly-intrusive and absolutely ridiculous about banning clothing that have numbers, which may or may not be related to gangs. It is hardly conceivable that an elementary child -- a white kid -- would be aware of the numbers that are allegedly related to gangs and therefore banned. Banning things never works and it isn't going to resolve real problems of school or community violence. School Administrators demonstrate to me that they are overpaid, have too little real work to do, and lack an ounce of common sense when making rules for schools. The stupidity of these cases never ceases to amaze and amuse me. Americans really have their heads up their posterior ends at times.
13, 14, 18, 31, 41, and 81
13, 14, 18, 31, 41, and 81 are all banned from the school district. I wonder how they teach maths.
Teacher "Can anyone tell me what 2 times 7 is?" Teacher "Anyone?" Johnny "14." Teacher "Right Johnny, you know that is a banned number, you are suspended."
Good one. You demonstrate
Good one. You demonstrate the idiocy of such rules.
