Pastor Tim Christensen told his congregation yesterday at the Gold Hill Lutheran Church in Butte, Mont, that he was cutting the 11 a.m. service very short in order to watch the 49ers-Panthers playoff game.
According to USA Today, the pastor is a 49ers fan (video below).
"You may not be aware, but there is a football game starting in just a few moments, not that I have any vested interest in this game or the outcome," stated Pastor Christensen. "But I was thinking we might have just a little bit of an abbreviated service."
"Would you all like to be forgiven for your sins?" asked Pastor Christensen. "Okay, that's great, you are."
He then told his congregation to take communion on their own.

"There's some wine and bread up here on the table," advised Pastor Christensen. "Feel free to help yourself, if you'd like to... I'm outta here!"
However, a church secretary named "Mariam" told Mashable.com today, "It was just a little bit of a joke. The entire congregation knows he's a big 49ers fan, so they were in on it and he held a full service right after that."
